LAW AND ETHICS

As a journalist in a conservative school, I try to diversify those who I interview for my articles. One student I wrote about in particular, Caitlyn Solei, was a girl from Puerto Rico who collected goods to donate to those in need after Hurricane Maria. I was able to take a story about Puerto Rico and localize it to a student at my school. I try to teach the other people on staff to do the same. I also have gotten information from a higher source of information. While writing about fake news, I interviewed Grady College Dean Charles Davis. Grady College is the Journalism school at the University of Georgia, so it was a good source to get information from; straight from the horse's mouth, in a sense. A couple of the students on the staff were writing a piece on immigration one year but had only interviewed white girls. I, with Ms. Rose, told them that they had to redo their article so that it was diversified. I also recognize the importance of the first amendment and have written essays on the subject in the past.
